Gay weddings made up 17 percent of marriages in Washington this past year, the first year gay marriages were legal in the state, state officials reported Wednesday.
About 7,071 same-sex couples got married in Washington between December 6, 2012, and the most recent complete month of data, September 2013. There were 42,408 total marriages in the state during that time, according to the Washington State Department of Health.
So far, most of Washington state's same-sex marriages, 62 percent, were between two women.
Washington is one of 15 states plus the District of Columbia where gay marriage is legal, but few have the kind of detailed data Washington released this week, in part because gay marriage is so new in most places.
According to the 2010 Census, there were about 152,335 same-sex married couples and 440,989 same-sex unmarried couples in the United States.

It is the only answer short of a real civil war. Just divide the nation.
My wives will be happy I can now marry my boyfriend. :D
Pseudo.
Look at it this way, now they won’t be procreataing, and the Gay Gene may die off. I know of a number of marriges that broke up when one of the partners went to there gay lover.
Wow. You know there are admissions officers weighting the scales heavily in favor of “gay,” when you consider that the percentage of homosexuals is around 3% in the general population. It isn’t that they average smarter, and it isn’t all self-selection. It’s the heavy thumb of PC.
Admissions officer is one of those helping professions that left-wing women and lesbians gravitate to, like teacher and social worker. You don’t assault your conscience by making a lot of money, but you get a fair amount of power in shaping society, especially when it comes to anointing the Elite. Post that article on its own, it’s worth it.
17% isn’t even a believable number.
They’re trying to get a proposal on the ballot here in Michigan to repeal the gay marriage ban we voted for 6 or 8 years ago.
Considering that DC attracts the most depraved and corrupt people in the nation — I beleive it.
I live in Washington state, but I would be happy to see the red states secede. Washington liberals seem to have some idea that they are the givers to the red states. I would like the blue states to have to see how well we would fare without the red states.
It would be a hard lesson, but it is probably the only way that the hard-headed socialists of this state to get a grip on reality.
The percentage will drop. This was the rush to set a precedent, make a point, etc.

Michigan passed it’s amendment by 59% in 2004. A 9% loss in 10 years for a popular vote about ‘gay marriage’ in say 2014 is not out of the realm of possibility. Now Michigan isn’t CA, but CA lost 9% in the 8 years between prop. 22 (61% in 2000) and prop. 8 (52% in 2008). If a new referendum happens it would be a lot closer than in 2004, in my opinion.
I don’t think any of them have been repealed yet by a popular vote, though.

“I suspect that 17% is high and it will taper off, seeing that same-gender marriage (it sure isnt the same sex!)has been legalized only recently.”
You may be reading these results wrong; I don’t think the story is that there is so many “gay marriages” that they comprise 17% of the total, but there are so few real marriages that they are only 83% of the total.
From what I see around me (which granted is a narrow view), traditional marriage will become the realm of a small number of traditional people (who will preserve it forever).
I know of at least one "couple" who did this. They were from Oregon.

That doesn’t even make sense.
First of all, gays procreate. Previous opposite-sex partners. Artificial insemination. Sperm donation.
As for the gay genes dying out... is it your position that gay children are only born to gay parents? The only gay folks I know have heterosexual parents. Are there studies to determine if gay parents have gay children? You say you know of marriages which have broken up because a spouse wanted to be with a same-sex partner. Did that person leaving a marriage leave behind biological children? Were those children gay?
“I dont think any of them have been repealed yet by a popular vote, though.”
Pretty sure you’re correct, although that’s just a matter of time. California would have repealed Prop 8 had the courts not made that moot, and Virginia will have a repeal on its ballot next year.
Closest I can think of is Minnesota, where the voters declined to strengthen their ban. Not exactly the same thing, but a troubling step in the wrong direction.
With marriage licenses for homosexuals comprising almost 20%, no Bureau of Tourism could convince me to vacation in the State of Washington, partiularly Seattle.
That's a very interesting medical point.
I doubt that politically active gays will passively accept that outcome.
Just a question of time, I guess, before we have sperm banks that exclusively match gay male donors with gay females who hope to become mothers of gay children.
I dont think any of them have been repealed yet by a popular vote, though.

No. Minnesota passed a Defense of Marriage Act in 1997. Although Minnesota is a mostly solid blue state, the 2010 elections gave the Republicans control of the governor’s office and both the House and Senate. The Republicans wanted to strengthen the prohibition against same-sex marriages and passed a constitutional amendment prohibiting it. That amendment was on the 2012 ballot. The people of Minnesota not only rejected that amendment by 52.6%, they also voted in a Democratic governor, a Democratic House, and a Democratic Senate. In May 2013, the now Democratic Legislature passed a bill allowing same-sex marriages, and the Minnesota governor signed it.
You are absolutely correct in the weasly insinuations of the admissions folks. Of the Ivy League colleges Yale has the highest percent of masturbatory matriculators ( sorry couldn’t resist the onomatopoeia ).
And once one college gets a lead in some minority group it becomes self propagating in that that group will gravitate to places of learning that are more sympathetic to them.
Yale was William F. Buckley’s alma mater. He may be rolling in his grave, but his debate nemesis, Gore Vidal, is jumping up and down in his or doing some other MM S&M thing.
