Socialism: Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro unveiled his big plan for socialism Monday night, just as a blackout engulfed the country. Sure, it's comical. But it's less so upon realizing that California may see the same thing.
The downward slide in Caracas is becoming more of a cautionary tale than just a freak show of Stalinist communist throwbacks run wild.
In California, energy officials warn that the state and others like it face a catastrophic collapse of its power grid due to the many green energy schemes that have made managing energy flow difficult.
"Energy officials worry a lot these days about the stability of the massive patchwork of wires, substations and algorithms that keep electricity flowing," reported Evan Halpert in Tuesday's Los Angeles Times, citing wind, solar and geothermal energy coming online.
At a minimum, higher costs would be a certainty as officials attempt to mitigate the effects of their own green energy policies, if not a total grid collapse.
The problems in Venezuela and California have a common root: State control of resources.

They say those who don’t learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it.
Funny how you don’t even have study history to see what an utter failure socialism is.
I don’t see the problem.
They have all the smartest folks out there.
It’s not like they have to use the Canadian Obamacare software writers to do their grid management...
You’d think so, but with 0bama on his socialist green energy kick with the enviro-nazis they’re not listening to those smartest folks.
Me neither...”lrogressives” have been saying that electricity and plumbing are horrible for years. they should live without them and get back to nature!
Forward!
I have read about talk to pay “greenies” not to produce power.
Each state should have its own grid. I don’t want my state to go under because of the granola-bar eating statists in CA.
Personally I’d say it’s more like Spain as a role model. They’ve done the same ‘alternative energy’ nonsense and their economy has been nosediving for it.
Venezuela seized all the companies which is a step beyond. Of course as CA progresses, they may well try to seize things to try and deflect blame and ‘solve’ the problem.
BOHICA
No surprise here
The one law that is not ever taught in law school or any university for that matter .... the law of unintended consequences.
-——Each state should have its own grid.-——
Sounds good.... Until you factor in cost....some parts of the country would simply be too expensive to turn the lights on....
If I am not mistaken..... Texas is the only state stand alone power grid....
No doubt about it...The panacea of green renewable energy sounds great but politicians saw the potential for crony capitalism and have exploited it to the max.
Cost be damned as long as they pad the pockets of those who spend the big bucks to keep them in office with taxpayer dollars.
Venezuela did seize the power companies and used that power to punish the enemies of Chavez and reward his friends.
The poor always had power and paid very little for it.
The rich had many unpredictable blackouts and their rates tripled and more.
Rush quipped a while ago to keep an eye on Venezuela because that’s where we are headed.
