The name Horst Wessel rings a bell! I am not familiar with the song that you use so well but I do know that he was a young Nazi “martyr”. A Nazi Navy training ship was named in memory of Horst Wessel. This ship was a “tall ship”, and was claimed a prize of war by the USA after WWII. It is now named “Eagle” and is the training ship of the United States Coast Guard Academy. My son and daughter have both sailed on Eagle and cadets.
Can I find the original words to the song?
Just do a search on “The Horst Wessel Song”, he was a criminal and pimp that was killed by communists and his “memory” co-opted by the Nazis.
My congratulations to your son and daughter.
