The National Intelligence Service (NIS) told a parliamentary committee that it believed Jang Song-thaek had been removed as vice chairman of the Norths top military body, the National Defence Commission.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-uns uncle, seen as his nephews political regent and one of the most powerful men in the country, has apparently been ousted and several associates executed, South Koreas spy agency said on Tuesday.
According to the NIS, Jang was recently ousted from his position and two of his close confidantes Ri Yong-ha and Jang Soo-kil were publicly executed in mid November, lawmaker Jung Cheong-rae told reporters.
North Korean military personnel were notified of the executions, Jung said, adding that Jang, 67, had since disappeared.
The husband of Kim Jong-ils powerful sister, Kim Kyong-hui, Jang was seen as instrumental in cementing Kim Jong-uns hold on power in the tricky transition period after his fathers death.
He was often referred to as the unofficial number two in the hierarchy, with a number of analysts naming him as the real power behind the young Kims throne.
I can only guess that the roles played by Jang have caused some tension in the process of consolidating Kim Jong-uns power, said Kim Yong-hyun, a professor at Seouls Dongguk University.

The Medicis on the Yalu. Palace intrigue, avunculicide, plotting, scheming all rich material for a Shakespeare or a Machiavelli. Napoleon Brandy swilling young Prince Kim heads off a coup d'etat lead by his father's brother and the queen, whose relatives enjoy decadent sensual pleasures while watching Desparate Housewives and applying Jean Patou cosmetics.

As for the two associates, those close to power frequently have a second function, scapegoat material. Regime changes are particularly bad times for such people!

Never hire family, never work for family. It always ends badly and that RUINS family get-togethers at the military reviewing stand on New Year’s. I can hear it now: “Where’s Jang?” He just spoiled the next one.

Yes, they apparently got “Fish Lips” Chang). The speculation: his bitch of a wife, “Black Eyes”, a co-tutor of young dictator Kim Jong Un, was behind it and has had her own husband eliminated or at least under house arrest if not sent to the gulag, and his closest associates machine gunned. In fact, death by machine gun has been rather common up there these days. Who controls the launch codes and command authority for their nukes? Whether this means the Boy King KJU is calling the shots, or she is, remains to be seen, but she is not a strumpet to be played with, that’s for sure. Neither is Kim Jong il’s beautiful but very jealous “bring me her head on a plate” type wifey. Chilling.

KN has no one in the top level that has any clue about how to run the country. Anything can happen.
