Is Gun Control the New Third Rail in Politics?
Breitbart.com ^ | 12/2/2013 | AWR Hawkins

For the longest time, social security has been considered the untouchable third rail of politics. But if 2013 has demonstrated anything it seems to be that the new third rail in American politics is gun control.

Democrat lawmakers in Colorado passed draconian gun control in March, and by mid-September two of the lawmakers--senators John Morse (D-Colo. Springs) and Angela Giron (D-Pueblo)--had been recalled.

Moreover, earlier this week a third Colorado state senator who supported gun control--Evie Hudak (D-Westminster)--capitulated under recall pressure and plans to relinquish her office.

Here is SierraBullet corp press release concerning the closing of the smelter of primary lead. Don’t know about other manufacturers plans:

We asked Sierra Bullets Plant Engineer Darren Leskiw, “How will the closure of the lead smelting plant affect Sierra Bullets?”

We have had many customers contact us about the closing of the last primary lead smelting facility in the USA. This facility is operated by Doe Run and is located in Herculaneum, MO and is just about a 3 hour drive from our facility in Sedalia, MO.

The main question asked is “Will this shut down your supply of lead?” The answer to that is no. First, Sierra buys lead from several different vendors to maintain constant supply. Second, this facility only smelts primary lead or lead ore. This is lead ore that has just been brought out of the earth. Sierra uses no primary lead at all and never has, so we use nothing directly from this facility. The lead we buy from Doe Run comes from their recycling facility in Boss, MO that is about 90 miles away from the smelter that is closing.

The facility we buy from is still going strong and delivering to us as scheduled. The lead from this facility is from recycled lead, mostly coming from car batteries. This is a continuing “in and out” cycle for them and the smelter closing will not affect this facility.

Our supply should not be in jeopardy and we do not anticipate any changes in our supply chain at this time. Could the lack of primary lead create a little more demand for recycled lead? Sure, but how much is unknown. Could this increase in demand also create an increase in price? Sure, but again, by how much is unknown at this time.

There are many other primary lead smelters in the world and so the flow of primary lead will not be shut off. Where there is a need for primary lead, I am sure there will be a salesman more than happy to pick up the business.

In short, we do not see any reason for alarm. We expect our supply to continue and keep feeding our production lines which are still running 24 hours per day to return our inventory levels to where they should be.

“How are conservative such a-holes? I can see that being the case if you thing the speaker of the house or the senate majority leader were conservatives, but they are not.

Well the US Chamber of Commerce ( that paragon of the free market) is ponying up big bucks for Bitch McConnell saying that he's a 92% reliable “conservative,” and an “exemplary” leader. Who knew?

I remember those days back when I lived in the Puget Sound area. The billboards with Patty f**kin’ Murray’s poleaxed visage peering down from billboards relishing the end of he availability of ‘cop killer bullets’. John Carlson of KVI dishing it back to the a-hole libs. The Microsoft Gun Club (Point and Click Technology) actually out-raising and out-spending Bill Gates opposing Prop 676.

I had a bumper sticker on the back of my vehicle that close copied the format of some stupid gay rights proposition of the day - mine said “Hands Off My Gun”. Stupid libs would initially think it was for their pet cause until they got a close look. I met angry faces and raised middle digits with a smile, an imaginary finger pistol and mouthing the word “bang”. That always got ‘em - they’d look like someone shoved a corncob up their tailpipe. Yeah - those were the days.

“It is a hopeful sign that Colorado is not permanently blue despite all the California immigrants.”

Oh please, I went to Berkeley (hated the place but it was a good engineering education) and I’ve been to Boulder many times. Colorado has plenty of it’s own home-grown liberals. You need to visit Bolder to see for yourself. BTW. None of the three State Senators who have been recalled are from, or have their roots in California. Morse is a native-born Coloradan, Giron is from Sidney, Nebraska (also known as North Colorado), and Evie Hudak is a Jew from New York. Sorry!

Three communists have been kicked out of the Colorado legislature; the so-called “laws” they enacted, however, are still on the books. If you think the Republicans are going to undo the damage, I’ve got some stock to seek you in one of the most profitable unicorn ranches in the mountains of Kansas.

Chamber of Commies? They’re so liberal I’d consider any endorsement by them as an anti-endorsement.

It's becoming more and more so.

In 1959, a majority (60%) of Americans wanted to make possession of handguns illegal. It's unthinkable that such a position would be held by the majority today.

What the heck happened to America if 60% of Americans could support banning handguns? Was it immigration, progressivism, FDR, the warfare-welfare state programming?

Wrong. The lead shortage hysterics have been debunked. Repeatedly.

This is only true is contested states. States, like Maryland, where the democrats have uncontested control of the legislatures, gun control is definitely on the front burner.
