When $15.00/hour minimum wage goes into effect your rent goes from $350.00 monthly to $525.00. Fact of life.

It was a long but not difficult book to read. The main point was made over and over again; it really couldn’t be missed. Show her this, maybe it’ll help her understand her current role in the economy.

“A man held a makework political job, polishing the cannon in front of the county courthouse. It kept him fed and let him put a little money aside, but he wasn’t getting ahead in the world. So one day he withdrew his life’s savings, bought a brass cannon —and went into business for himself.” — Robert A. Heinlein, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress

Labor is about 25% of the cost of fast food. So if you were to double wages the cost per item would be roughly 25% higher. So a $4.00 item would cost $5.00 NOT $10.00!

“It’s very difficult to live off $8.07 an hour,” said Mr. Rojas, 23, noting that he is often assigned just 20 or 25 hours of work a week. “I have to live with my parents. I would like to be able to afford a car and an apartment.”

...what kind of car? A Mercedes S class? Would a penthouse apartment on 5th avenue be alright?
