We can look around and see many reasons to be grateful. With fires, floods, freezing and all sorts of frighting events all we have to do is look up and give thanks.

Even the term Maccabee is poetically apt. It is Hebrew for hammer! A building tool, which drives nails. The main tool that the Carpenter of Galilee would later use, incidentally. (If, hypothetically, technology had been granted by God to be better, we might instead have a term that means screwdriver. The screw as we know it was impossible until technology existed to make its mass production practical.)
The more I look at how Judaism bears witness to the Christ the more thrilled I get. These are puzzles that fairly explain themselves in the light of God’s Holy Spirit. I once thought this point of view was a crazy, overblown hobby horse of bible commentators. No it ain’t, and bible writers themselves used it.

And please pardon my rambling... but in gratitude it’s impossible to witness enough about God. But I’d cram the thread if I kept trying.
The first sermon I remember going to to as a born again believer, over 24 years ago, was at a Lutheran church. The topic was, I believe, “God’s hammer.”
Isn’t it odd how God pounds things home. He never left me or forsook me, though He walked me “to hell and back.”
We SHOULD pray for the Carpenter of Galilee to put the hammer down on America... both to knock down evil and to rebuild what’s good! If this is granted, the din and the knocking will be distressing for a while. But then, oh what will be built. It will be to marvel.

And, the Lord even uses these calamities to focus and grow our spirits.
I am cautiously optimistic. I think a rebuild job is coming up for America if God can sell it on the idea. God hasn’t given up on this land that was so brilliantly launched on the power of the gospel, flawed though the implementation had been. We may think we’re in bad shape right now, but except for lack of gospel we have resources that 1776 could only envy. “Roman roads” have been built all over the land, and even much of the rest of the world. We only need gospel soldiers to walk them.

Rutter: "Magnificat"
John Rutter turned 66 this year. Choristers know him as a composer who writes primarily for the Episcopalians, but choristers of all faiths cherish his works. Rutter gave this piece a Mexican flavor.

Indeed.
Events in History, Ancient Writings, Scripture, even Language Development, all seems to tie together, if one knows where to look and has an open heart.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS AND OUR BELOVED NATION!
MAGNIFICAT: anima mea Dominum.
English (Douay-Rheims):
MY SOUL DOTH magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him. He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy: As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever. |

Amazing Grace (Click)
By John Newton
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. . Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! . Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. . The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures. . Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace. . The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, Who called me here below, Will be forever mine. . When weve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, Weve no less days to sing Gods praise Than when wed first begun.

"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." |
The Lords Prayer Andrea Bocelli (Click)
DEAR LORD, who suffered torment, agony, and death upon the Cross to free our souls from the chains of iniquity, protect and defend our troops. Guide them in the performance of their duties. Strengthen them to endure hardship, danger and deprivation in Your service. Let their efforts free the people of Iraq and Afghanistan from the chains of terror and slavery, foster a lasting peace in the region, and bring all to a greater share in Your Mercy. Amen. |
