Crime rate plunges after city dumps unionized police (Camden,NJ)

Camden, New Jersey dumped its unionized police force last spring, unable to afford the lucrative union contract the city was stuck with, and instead contracted for police services with the nonunion county force. Crime promptly dropped. Ed Krayewski reports for Reason:

The city has been run exclusively by Democrats for several generations, and some local leaders openly worried that Camden, which already had the highest crime rate per capita last year, would get worse. But it hasn't. In fact, crime's gone down, as Fox News Latino reports:

The reorganization increased the amount of police on the streets and incorporated cutting edge technology such as ShotSpotter rooftop monitors. The initiative has already gotten results, according to city leaders.

Over the summer months this year, the murder rate fell by 22 percent and crime overall was down 15 percent, according to data provided by Camden County officials. When it comes to cops versus robbers, you can generally find me in the pro-cop camp. But police unions are another thing entirely. In return for their admittedly hazardous and stressful jobs, unions have in many places abusive contracts.

Doing good. Hopefully next week I’ll get the protease inhibitor GMO drug that has a 98% cure rate for what ails me. We’ve been waiting for it to clear all the FDA hurdles for 2 years now. 6 months ago they thought the UW Med. Center would have it in stock when I go back to see them next week. We’re all hoping the sequester didn’t throw a wrench into this also.

Politics seems to take a lot of my free time. Last year we helped elect a Republican to the State House of Representatives Position 2 from my district for the first time since 1932. I was the Chairman of the 35th Leg District Republican committee, (Thurston, Mason & Kitsap Counties), and am again this year. Besides re-electing our guy, we have a new candidate for the other house seat that is a veteran from Afghanistan and oozes charisma and as smart as they come we have very high hopes for next year. He filed last July so he has a full year+ to campaign and build coalitions.

In Kitsap this last election, I used GOP Data Center and ID all 125 nonpartisan races. The R’s had 35 candidates file to the Dems 29 and 24 listed as Independents but when you looked closer at the voting households of the I’s, they all had at least 1 declared Republican living at the address.

Come election night only 2 known Dems won and the rest went to the R’s and R leaning independents. We had a bruising state senate race in the 26th, Pierce and Kitsap Counties, and Jan Angel the R won. This race drew national attention, especially from a California billionaire who dumped 3 million into her opponent’s coffers. Each candidate raised over 1.5 million each My board in Kitsap raised and gave Jan over $36,000.00! The legal limit.

The billionaire even spent 250K funding a group of chumps that dressed up in their opponents tee-shirts and hats and went doorbelling after 8:30 PM to all the Republicans in the district that did not vote in 2012 trying to argue with them telling lies about Jan and trying to suppress the R base vote. I hope the PDC or legislature fixes that aspect of dirty politics.

There’s a change in the wind brewing up here and the R’s are poised to take over the House next election, 7 seats are needed and we now have a 1 vote majority in the senate. Can you imagine? It feels damn good to win one after such a long drought. We do have the stupidest governor in America, but we’ll box his ass in next year and replace this worthless SOB in 2016!

Hope all is well with you and the hubby! Keep in touch, please.

RE: “After this, therefore because of this” is a Logical Fallacy.

The article describes EXACTLY what was done after the union was dumped. Their strategy and policy makes TOTAL sense to me. It mirrors what the NYPD has been doing for 20 years.

May I copy your post to our County Chair?...he’d like to hear good news...he’s a really good guy, and is changing our county (and I believe the state, also) with his ideas and positive moves...we have a state run by UNIONS (commies)....

Hope all works well with the drug you need....don’t get me started in the FDA. You really accomplished a LOT!!!!

Sure, we are real proud of what we are doing. The county chair told me last night he’s asking for a 90,000 operating budget for next year! He’s raised all but 20K of that amount since October over and above what they had budgeted for 2013. We are working hard and the citizens are responding accordingly.
