The only good thing about The Smiths, was Johnny Marr.
His post-Smiths career has been fairly aimless and unimpressive - being part of the Smiths (i.e. working daily with an obsessive as a writing partner) gave him the focus and consistency he needed.
Morrissey and Marr created a very distinctive body of work, lyrically and musically, which neither of them could have achieved without the other.
