We have a lot of oriental folks in the community in which I live, in a state in the central mid west. Some are Japanese, some are Taiwanese, some are Chinese, a few Korean while quite a few are Vietnamese.

I’ve gotta say that these people treat me as a customer with Utmost respect when I go to their places of business. The food at restaurants is priced reasonably, very reasonably, and the servings are generous.

The laundry mats have the best prices in town, AND when I finish my laundry, the owner even helps carry out my bags.

They work hard to learn English, and give good customer service, and to be as helpful as they can be. MANY have told me how much they love the United States even though there is much that perplexes them.

One man asked me why it was that our people are so violent, why they kidnap and murder. They are accustomed to disciplining themselves and don’t understand why it is that Americans don’t. The man really hoped for an answer, and I didn’t have one to give him, because I don’t understand either, so that’s what I told him.

He took the time to learn Christianity and joined a church here. A young man lives in my apartment building below me, and he’s as nice as can be! He works nights and he doesn’t even complain if it’s a bit noisy in my house. Course, he appreciates that I did what I could to help him last winter when his car was stuck in the snow. Even though I wasn’t able to do anything to help, I tried, and he has treated me with much kindness and respect! While he was in Taiwan visiting his family, I kept an eye on his apartment for him. He’s just a kid and he’s a great person!

I’ve had encounters with Hispanics with very mixed results, but if i had to choose a favorite, the oriental people win hands down!

I’m sure that results vary from location to location because all cities and towns have their own personalities which can make a huge difference in a person’s experience at a given location. I’m just saying that my own experience where I’m at is excellent.

If a Korean boy was born in the US, he doesn’t have to do mandatory military service.
