Thursday is Thanksgiving, so its time for a Southern California tradition: Turkey Night Grand Prix at Perris Auto Speedway.
Its the 73rd edition of the classic that has been run at various tracks in the area. The first 16 years starting in 1934, the event first promoted by J.C. Agajanian and his family following his death in 1984, was run at Gilmore Stadium, now home to CBS Television City. The event was also held at Gardena Stadium for four years before a lengthy 28-year run at Ascot Park, interrupted in 1975 by moving to 605 Speedway in Irwindale

I recall the ads for races at Ascot Park on the radio during the 1960's. They would always conclude with the announcer shouting, "Ascot park...Be there!"
The winners list has some big names.
