To: Popman

When will we get it back into our heads that prisons are for punishment; not for rehabilitation. It just doesn’t matter to me if that punishment is administered by the state or the other inmates.

I respectfully disagree...

They can be both...certain first time offenders for non violent crimes can be offered the rehabilitation option ...lots of countries have proven it can be done...

How many people who have made a stupid mistake and wound up doing time in a federal prison come out hardened criminals...lots...many of our prisons are like going to crime school 101..

People who are obviously not going to be productive citizens can go to the type of prison where the objective is to punish them for their crimes...

JMHO

As as aside note...prison time should be meted out by the ton...breaking a 100 ton size rock into pebble gravel...
