During remarks on immigration, President Obama was confronted onstage by a protester calling on him to use executive power to bypass Congress on the issue.
The protester, standing behind the president during a speech in San Francisco, was joined by others who began to chant Stop deportation! If, in fact, I could solve all these problems without passing them through Congress, I would do so, President Obama responded. But were also a nation of laws.
During his remarks, the president praised supporters of the Senate bill, including activists fasting on the National Mall, and encouraged House Speaker John Boehner, whom he said is sincere in wanting to pass immigration reform, to follow their lead.
The president is on a West Coast fundraising swing.

We’re in the grip, and it is tightening. Not many seem to realize that we don’t have much time, we’re going to wake up one day with police kicking doors down and confiscating guns. Then it will be too late.
I created that back in 2008. Glad you like it. (I was on “That other site” at the time, was severely castigated for it, LEFT that other site and came to FR! It was a GOP site...can you believe it!)
That was the first thought I had . . .
He was allowed to clearly plead his case . . .
Translation: If I did not want to use immigration as a wedge against republicans, I would do so.
Hm. It’s kind of interesting. Has he ever encountered a non-leftist protester? I tend to think many of these things are staged. I know he’s encountered Code Pink and now the open borders crowd. Has anyone ever yelled, “Obamacare is a lie?” or “Close the borders!” in an appearance by him? It seems his “protesters” only want him to be MORE liberal.
This 'rogue protester' is about as legit as the fainting lady at Obama's Obamacare speech. All staged and total BS about as credible as most of what he says as well.
President Obama responded. But were also a nation of laws....?
You damn liar!
“If I could bypass Congress on Immigration, I would do it.”
President (if he IS the President!) Barack Al-Obama already HAS bypassed Congress.
Similar to the rule of silence in a Unitarian monastery: “No talking. Unless what you have to say is really, really important.”
Hmm, wonder what it was like back in the days of “Sorry, but that is outside the authority of this office. Please write your Congressman.”
He couldn’t even get the dream act through a Dem lame-duck Congress in 2010. Because the people don’t want it. Our problem now is the campaign by the US bishops to go around to the local churches preaching amnesty. It’s causing a lot of well-meaning robots to rethink their opposition. And a lot of conservative Catholics to rethink their Catholicism.
Me too!!!
“I smell a plant. It looked to me this all was staged.”
That is exactly what I thought.
Unlawfully entering the US needs to be made a criminal offense with a proscribed penalty of deportation. If you give any wiggle room to the bleeding heart judges and blood sucking lawyers then they will continue to ignore the law with impunity.
