Does two thirds of the senate have to ratify the Iran treaty?

Several articles have been posted about the Iran nuclear agreement reached in Geneva by the so-called P5+1. I have seen nothing about implementation. Does this agreement require the advice and consent of the Senate with approval of 2/3 of those present?

Yes, according the Constitution. Harry Reid cannot get around that at this point.

I can hear McConnell now- “When it comes to foreign affairs we will give the President latitude and support the charade, but we will continue to fight him on the domestic front”.

They would probably approve. It’s not on them if Iran renigs. We have an out. Israel is not like China is to North Korea.

Why?

The Kaliph has spoken.
The Fatwa is clear.

Obama can simply wave his hand and declare “So let itbe written, so let it be done”.

Or get a simple majority Senate to rubber stamp it.

2/3 of those present.

He’ll lock every Republican Senator in their bathrooms except McCain and Graham and hold the vote

Yes if whatever has supposedly agreed to it an actual treaty.

From what I’ve been able to gather this is a six month agreement to start. The senate could not vote to have lunch tomorrow in less than six months so its pretty much of a moot point.

Yes, and by precedent of James Madison himself the House is obligated to fund it if 2/3 of the Senate approve.

No. Obama can make whatever laws and treaties he wants. He don’t need no steenkin’ congress!

McCain and Lindsey Graham are probably the most most anti-Iranian senators by far. If it was up to them we’d already have declared war on Iran.
