The accompanist breathes with his singer wonderfully. But he needs to use less pedal and try for a more staccato sound. Schubert wanted the piano to sound like a guitar played by the serenader.

My Dad loved Jussi Bjerling’s Voice, so I grew up listening to him on old records.

My favorite rendition of “Salut, Demurer Chaste et pure” was from an LP of Faust with Jussi and Victoria De Los Angeles.
