She had plenty of pimps, probably both inside and outside of the Durham Police Dept. Finally, she crossed the line. Had she been appropriately charged with filing a false rape claim and served time, she may not be in the fix she is now. This slut needs to go away for the maximum amount of time. She will not be missed. There are a lot of happy people tonight in Durham that Mangum finally got what’s coming to her.

I don't know the reasons.
I do know this: some time ago (it may have been last year, 2012) I found a list of the Duke 88 on line, and started searching out each name using Google. I was surprised by how many had moved on. I didn't finish the entire list of 88, but I think I did twenty or thirty. Of that number, more than half (IIRC) had left.
They had almost all gone to other academic institutions. Some had followed spouses to new appointments. I think a few had gone into other professions, and some had disappeared from sight altogether, leaving next to no web footprint at all.
I'm sure I'm not the only person to try this exercise. It is time-consuming but not difficult. People in academia are usually very "connected." They have easy access to every form of communication media, and they don't get tenure by hiding in a corner.
