Colleges in New Haven are warning students to be careful while walking on city streets after innocent people are getting hurt because of a brutal trend.
It's called the Knockout Game, where unsuspecting people are attacked for no apparent reason. Police said that the suspects are not robbing the victims, with the most common being the elderly and women.
"What the press has labeled a knockout game is anything but," Officer David Hartman, of the New Haven Police Department said. "These are violent crimes perpetrated against innocent and unsuspecting victims."
A man was walking to the park and ride bus stop on Church Street in New Haven on Tuesday after leaving work when he walked by three men. He told Eyewitness News he was punched in the face and momentarily knocked out.
When the man got up, the three suspects ran away from the scene. The man suffered a fractured and swollen nose because of the attack.
Because of the recent attack in New Haven, Gateway Community College is offering security escorts for any students that feel threatened.
"This is inexcusable behavior by a bunch of cowards," Hartman said. "For what? A game? We don't see this as a game. We see this as a pattern of crimes for which we hope the perpetrators will receive swift and strict penalties under the law."
Yale University also warned its students on Thursday to take extra precaution.
Walkers are being advised to avoid using their cell phone or listening to music while walking, according to Yale University police Chief Ronnell A. Higgins in a statement Thursday. Pedestrians should avoid isolated areas after dark and call police if they feel threatened.
Hartman said six other similar assaults have been reported. Three were reported both Monday and Tuesday, and none have been reported since.

One of these days one of these punks will pick on the wrong “old man.”
Haven't been many shootings by CT NRA members lately have there? Must be working. Need I add label?
Actually the “game” is called Black Kids Think Attempted Murder is Funny and So Does Eric Holder.
Holly Crap,a Connecticut Local is reporting on this
.
must be getting close to a libs turf or a family member is a willing accomplice.
I believe that just occurred in PA
I think cops should use a variation of the stings they pull on customers of prostitutes and car thieves. You've heard of the Bait Car, now meet the Knockout Game lure. They need a MMA-type, disguised as a woman or a senior, to roam areas where Knockout Game victims have been assaulted and do a bait and switch. The switch being to suddenly transform from a seemingly vulnerable victim to a swift attacker who gives the Knockout gamer the whipping of his life. Oh, I almost forgot, you can't hit a juvie.
Great idea!
Sweet!
Any POC convicted of this crime:
A bullet to the back of the head. Then send the nearest living relatives the bill for the bullet.
local college student in New Haven need a warning. They have to be the least intelligent college students in the country to waste all that money to go to Yale.
Don`t let the MSM get away with minimalizing crime with semantics. Call this what it is...criminal assault not a `game`. I propose a new game -the `Shoot Them Game`. Citizens who witness this SHOOT the thugs . Think that would be a `game` to the MSM? Enough of this terror by thuggery. Time to thin the herd.
Pass out guns to the students.
Place a bounty on the head of any animals that play this “game”.
If some of the thugs are captured alive, use them in a live action version of “The Most Dangerous Game” and see how they like to be in a game that they don’t want to be in.
Will people now become extremely wary at the approach of a black youth on the street? Even most older Americans of African origin are just a little on edge in that situation.
The black youth are all Trayvon Martin now.
*Actually the game is called Black Kids Think Attempted Murder is Funny and So Does Eric Holder.*
It seems that history doesn’t look so favorably on other racists that played this same game in hoods and sheets a few decades ago down south...
