DURHAM Crystal Mangum was found guilty of second degree murder Friday in the death her boyfriend, Reginald Daye.
In a quick-moving trial, jurors deliberated over four options: first-degree murder, guilty of second-degree murder, guilty of voluntary manslaughter or not guilty.
That Mangum stabbed boyfriend Daye, 46, on April 3, 2011, was never in question.
She admitted during the eight-day trial that she poked Daye with a knife in the side of the chest with a steak knife at his apartment, but she claimed she did it in self-defense while he was straddling her and trying to choke her.
Daye told investigators that Mangum stabbed him during the argument after she disrespected him by bringing other men to his house.
Both said that sometime during their fight, Mangum went into the bathroom and locked the door and that Daye broke the door down and grabbed her by the hair. Mangum said he dragged her out of the bathroom by the hair and that she stabbed him shortly after that.

I love to see karma working. What a horrible person she is.
That they did, just like the guy Tawana Brawley falsely accused.
Darn...just when she was starting to get her life together.
At least she has better hair than Debbie Blabbermouth-Schultz!
“That they did, just like the guy Tawana Brawley falsely accused.”
Horrible case too!
Also, I think Mike Nifong should be in jail, but at least he’s bankrupt and shamed. Well....let’s hope so.
If she murdered him, how was he able to tell investigators what happened? Did he survive initially, long enough to get to an ER and speak with investigators about her ‘disrespecting’ him?
Gee...this is like a reunion of the Duke lacrosse Free Republic regulars. We were here all day and night for months following this case, weren’t we? And we immediately had that malicious Crystal figured out from the very beginning, didn’t we?
Now I don’t understand why she was charged with 2nd degree murder and not 1st degree.
The Group of 88 was a group of 88 professors at Duke University all of whom signed a controversial advertisement which was published two weeks after a woman falsely claimed to have been raped by members of Duke's lacrosse team. The advertisement, which appeared in the Duke Chronicle on April 6, 2006, contained language implying that the charges were true.
Later, of course, the group of 88 claimed their words were mis-interpreted and they tried to backtrack. But, as far as know, not a single one of them faced ANY suspension, sanction or firing, meaning justice was not entirely served in this case.
IIRC, she was charged with murder one, but apparently the jury decided there was insufficient prior intent.
I think one of them is even a dean or department head now.
