I remember when the Senate was split 50-50 with a Republican President co-chairmanships and even committees were allowed.

When the democrats had the Presidency and the Senate was split 50-50 the democrats took all chairmenships.

That was a mccain “reach across the aisle” moment. The republicans had a one vote majority with Cheney casting the 51st vote. mccain ignored that. Yet he keeps getting elected.
