I occasionally dip into Mad and it’s sad to see how badly the artwork has fallen. The 60s and 70s had the best artists. Mort Drucker & Don Martin. Wow!
Once in a while I see mad in the magazine section at my local store and take a look. I’d say the art is about the same as before, but it has become very one-sided politically, with a lot of crude, unfunny stuff about Palin and conservatives in general. One thing I DID find amusing was a story they did about cover art that they never used. One was titled “We support the right of gays to marry,” coupled with a drawing of David Hyde Pierce (Niles, from the old “Frasier” show), who is gay in real life, and Ellen DeGeneres, standing together at the altar.
