Elian’s dad was as much of a puppet as Elian now is in Cuba.

Now do you get it?

Before the clampdown on the dad, there were conversations between the dad and the Miami relatives indicating his desire for Elian to remain and live in America.

It really sickened me that so many “conservatives” called for the return of Elian to his father proving that even conservatives can be clueless about communism.

The obvious solution was to offer Elian's father the opportunity to live in Florida with his son--but of course the Clinton administration had to follow Castro's orders. During the time Elian's father was in the US, he was under close supervision by Castro's henchmen at all times.

It was Clinton who changed the rules--under the earlier set of rules Elian was absolutely permitted to stay in the US. Clinton modified to the "wet foot/dry foot" rules--because Elian was rescued at sea, he wasn't automatically entitled to asylum.
