He shouldn’t have let him back in the house.
He was a parent, for GODs sake.
“He shouldnt have let him back in the house.”
When it’s your child that’s hard to do.
I am so sorry to hear all this. I’ve been close to the suffering caused by severe mental illness more than once. And sometimes it comes seemingly out of nowhere. I had a friend go from basic normal neurotic New Yorker (hey, we are ALL neurotic!) to dead by his own hand in less than a month’s time.
It is the worst. It is almost impossible to get real help. You see that even a prominent person like Mr. Deeds can’t get real help for his family member, and now look what has happened.
And the really irritating thing is that all the talk about “mental health parity” and the new requirements of Obamacare, etc. will do NOTHING to change this.
We need to be able to incarcerate (that is, lock up the body) of those who are a danger to themselves and others. We need to be able to empower sane family members to make decisions for their insane relatives.
My heart goes out to this family.
What do you think he should have done? What would you have done, if it was your son?
Where do you send a child who has lost touch with reality when there is no public assistance other than jail?
Good gosh...really? It’s his son. And, how do you know he “let him back in the house”? Maybe the son let himself in.
