It's quite possible that the single stupidest school lunch policy on the planet comes courtesy of a strange interpretation of the Manitoba Government's Early Learning and Child Care lunch regulations (an earlier version of this article incorrectly pointed at the Manitoba Child Care Association as the source of the strangely interpreted policy). Apparently if a child's lunch is deemed "unbalanced", where "balance" refers to ensuring that a lunch conforms to the proportions of food groups as laid out by Canada's awful Food Guide, then that child's lunch is "supplemented", and their parent is fined.
Blog reader Kristen Bartkiw received just such a fine.
She sent her children to daycare with with lunches containing leftover homemade roast beef and potatoes, carrots, an orange and some milk.
She did not send along any "grains".
As a consequence the school provided her children with, I kid you not, supplemental Ritz Crackers, and her with a $10 fine.

Canadians should start referring to Manitoba as “Marxist Manitoba” and those who promulgate and enforce these stupid policies as “Manitoban Marxists”. Put a nice hammer and sickle on their photos, in blogs, posts, and attached to articles.
Identify the fools by name, title, place of work, and then the H&S symbol.
Somebody will get the message.
Don’t take this crap. Fight back while you can. We are going through this here in the US and only when the people fight back is anything done to stop and correct the PC bullshit policies.
Then get heads to roll, i.e. fired.
I’d fold a ten dollar bill until it was all sharp corners. Then I’d ram it up someone’s.....
Ritz crackers are junk food.
Yup. The problem with processed foods today is that the chemicals in them trick the body into thinking it's getting nutrition, when it is not. The body then craves more and more, leading to obesity. Note that I said nutrition, which if the body received would then turn off the cravings. Overweight people are literally starving for real nutrition, and aren't getting it by stuffing their mouths with processed foods. The food manufacturers know this, but they're in the business to make money from increased sales.
yes! Ritz Crackers are junk food!
My husband has to go on a low sodium diet, ans it’s amazing the amount of sodium in processed food. I think I’m going to be cooking from scratch a lot more.
