“Okay, I was in Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi”

I was far far away in Slovakia, but I saw it on TV.
IIRC, it was not the Hurricane so much as it was the river Levee failure that caused the severe damage.
That was never considered a potential problem prior to Katrina. I guess since they were built by the US government, it had to be Bush’s fault.
I think they also said that the levees were poorly built and could have failed at any time, with or without a hurricane.

The levee was in New Orleans, over an hour away from us. Our problem was the actual storm and the surge.
