There was no internet news or Talk Radio for Reagan to become more informed on the issue.

By the 1990s members of the GOP were well aware of the mistake.

These idiots are proposing a disaster they have seen before and would take them 5 minutes of internet research to understand.

Reagan made the same blunder (sigh).

Incomplete facts on your part. Reagan's law actually included strict enforcement which none of the current plans include. Add in the fact that Reagan stated, both to his Chief of Staff and his son Michael, that this was possibly his greatest political mistake, and it put's his actions into context.

Now, given that the previous Amnesty was such a failure, why would anyone who is supposed to be a conservative leader pursue such a wrong-headed policy position?
