The issues are here now and today. This isn’t 1880 when every person could eventually find their way out west and live off the land. Focus on the now. Do you think the churches of this nation can feed and shelter all the unemployed?
I’m not saying this is all about the government, not by any stretch of the imagination but we do need jobs. The jobs we do have, the engineering and such positions are great but we need back millions of factory jobs that government policies let get away.

You don't just "live off the land". You have to work to make that happen.

Even in 1880 you poor people because you always will have people who are poor and it's a utopian dream to think that won't happen.

The church's role has been usurped by the Gov't. As church-goers have to pay more in taxes, the church is deprived of the money they would normally use to care for the poor.

but we do need jobs

Of course we do. But the current Gov't doesn't want the poor to benefit by having work. Their whole aim is to increase dependency.

“The issues are here now and today.”

True. But you seem to imply that the Bible, which instructs church and family to care for the underprivileged and family, is irrelevant. It isn’t. The principles are timeless. If we experienced a revival in America, with appropriately adjusted attitudes and morals (work ethic, focus on God, fathers being providers, family values, etc.), our country would turn around “automatically”.
