- An airport security officer lay helplessly bleeding after a gunman opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport as paramedics waited 150 yards away because police had not declared the terminal safe to enter, according to two law enforcement officials. It would be 33 minutes before Transportation Security Administration Officer Gerardo Hernandez, who was about 20 feet from an exit, would be wheeled out by police to an ambulance, said the officials, who were briefed on the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe was still ongoing into the Nov. 1 shooting. For all but five of those minutes, there was no threat from the suspected gunman — he had been shot and was in custody, they said.

Even NBC seems outraged at this.

Hmmmm.... “lack of coordination between entities”....

Where have we ever seen this before?

Disappointing that the first responders didn’t say screw this, we’re going in and try to save someones life.

Don’t know what to believe any more - perhaps the guy didn’t get help is because that fake blood really is easy to clean up, so no hurry.

Dear TSA, you’re not cops.

/s/

LAPD.

That seems to be the message here. I can’t think of an incident where a LAPD officer was left on the ground for half an hour. But citizens can bleed out until cops feel safe.

Cops are known to let people suffer all in the name of “officer safety” for “controlling the scene”. If I am injured the last person I would want near me is a cop.

Inexcusable. Something like a severed femoral artery is fatal if not stopped in a few minutes but usually quite survivable if immediately treated. For that reason alone it’s vital to know exactly how the officer died. If they don’t have the guts to go in harm’s way and save the wounded, then why all the heavy body armor and armament for SWAT teams? Military personnel, often with a lot less body armor, do go into harm’s way to save their immediately wounded comrades.

I recall a father being tazed when he tried to rescue his child from a fire. Maybe that was for his safety, but I’m curious whose safety was threatened here.

It’s OK, he wasn’t a cop.

LAPD has a 100% NON-compliance with CPR training. Just thought I’d mention that...

Then the LAX shooter didn’t kill him — that insane policy did.

North Hollywood bank robbery shootout (40 minutes). LAPD had several officers hit, and made repeated attempts to rescue them while under fire. At least one nearly bled to death. Of course, those were cops who were hit, and the TSA agent was just "little people".

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
