Pete never gambled with his life - using steroids and drugs - in order to set an illegitimate record. He gambled on his own team to win. He had a gambling addiction. Lots of people do.

Holding a grudge for the sake of holding a grudge is unhealthy. His record as a player stands and he’s been used as a bad example long enough. Murderers get out of prison in less time than Pete has been disgraced.
