Being "political" is the "new" Democrat talking point wielded by the Left to paint Republicans/conservatives as intransigent [Refusing to moderate a position, especially an extreme position; uncompromising].

Obama and the Democrats on Capital Hill use it regularly when describing the reason that they can't get things done - it's because of the "politics" being played (by the Right, of course).
