On Friday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Leno, allegedly in his last season as host of the Tonight Show, has not been known as a particularly partisan entertainer, so it was surprising to see him go Candy Crowley on Ted Cruz. You may recall that CNNs Crowley, who moderated a debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney, became part of the debate when she began reciting (false) White House talking points on Benghazi. Some on Twitter compared Leno to a prosecuting attorney as he interrupted Cruz and accused him of everything from shutting down the government to wanting violent psychopaths to have guns.
Cruz, for his part, used the appearance to his advantage, clearly understanding both the venue and the audience. Although Cruz is certainly more than capable of holding his own in a debate with Leno, he chose mostly to keep his powder dry, defying the media-generated image of him as a hostile aggressor. He was relaxed and laid back, despite the tough questioning. It seemed to go over well with the audience, which erupted into cheers after several of Cruzs points.

In fact, at a Dean Bible Ministries Mens Prayer Breakfast on June 15, 2013, in a presentation, "Why Christians Need to be Involved in the Political Arena," at 40:13 into the video, Rafael Cruz stated:
You know, communism or socialism, whatever you want to call it, what is happening in this country is not different than what happened in Cuba. The procedure might be different; they may be a little slower but it's the same thing. It is about government control of your lives. You got to realize how Marxism, how socialism works. And we need to understand the issues. When you hear all these things about homosexual marriage, this has nothing to do with homosexual rights. Did you know that? The whole objective is the destruction of the traditional family, it has nothing to do with homosexuals, they could[n't] care less about homosexuals, they want to destroy the family."
Leno's talking point was the hell-spawned lie of traitors.
Kudos to RonDog and the LA Tea Party for the cheering section at Cruz/Leno. We thought Leno was scripted - he kept looking down. Seemed like he was getting ‘what to say’ after every Cruz commment. And he interrupted. And used every liberal talking point.
Didn’t matter, tho. Cruz held his own and we both thot he was terrific. Thanks RonDog for making sure we knew about this ahead of time, and thanks Tea Partiers for getting there. It was exciting to be in Los Angeles and cheering for you, right around the corner. Sort of.
Well done.
He’s trying to bait Cruz into a railing against “gays” and you know what? Cruz probably won’t do it.
If Cruz takes Eph 6 and John 3:17 to heart, he won’t. Not even “gays” are our ultimate enemies, strangely enough. Because they can be saved. We may have to oppose what they do, but we don’t wish them damnation or declare them hopeless.
We are only adamantly opposed to Satan. We could show strategic quarter to “gays” (to set them up for accepting God’s blessing of being honored in their bodies) but we never have a right occasion to show quarter to Satan.
Leno’s judgement of politicians is nowhere near good as his judgement of cars.
Cruz turned the tough questions into softball with the greatest of ease.
On the other hand Obama answered the softballs Leno was tossing him with stutters while he searched for a coherent thought or a teleprompter.
I’ve listened to Leno before and I’ve never heard him so prepared for attack.
Frankly unless its about cars or California, he really couldn’t care less.
Met him in Monterey years ago and he was very nice.
Someone told him to pull out the knives.
And they have a large checkbook.
Kalifornia, what do you expect.
Lenos lib panties are showing.
I share his passion for cars, but that’s it.
He did great and I couldn’t believe the applause from the audience, this man is more popular than the msm want you to think. Sure Jay was tough on him but he did great.
... surprising to see him go Candy Crowley on Ted Cruz... I like Leno - but he came across as a partisan jerk when he was talking to Cruz. Shame on him.
Leno’s wife is big time liberal feminist. Chances are he’s not a right wing social conservative.
