The race for attorney general in Virginia remains undecided nearly a week after Election Day, and as local elections officials neared the conclusion of an investigation into absentee ballots, the razor-thin lead of Republican Mark D. Obenshain narrowed.
Numbers from the Virginia State Board of Elections on Sunday showed Mr. Obenshain leading his Democratic opponent, Mark R. Herring by 55 votes statewide at 1,103,436 to 1,103,381. But analysts said that number is likely to change as election officials in Fairfax County count provisional ballots before the Tuesday certification deadline.
Fairfax County Electoral Board Secretary Brian W. Schoeneman said the board had finished counting roughly 3,200 previously uncounted absentee ballots for the county and had submitted them to the elections board.
Mr. Schoeneman said 493 provisional ballots were not included in the weekend submission to the state board but would be counted Tuesday. Mr. Herring took 61 percent of the vote in Fairfax County compared to 39 percent for Mr. Obenshain.
The electoral board began its investigation Friday after a meeting to discuss errors in absentee ballot returns in the 8th Congressional District, located in Fairfax County. The errors were linked to two optical scan machine tape records, one that had been included in the results, and one that had not been included in the results, the board stated.
A weekend canvass of the votes followed, during which staff and observers checked for any mistakes in ballots and found the 3,200 uncounted votes.
The board has until midnight Tuesday to certify the results, after which they are sent to the Virginia State Board of Elections for its certification. The state board certifies results on Nov. 25, and a losing candidate must ask for a recount with 10 days of the state certification.

Our future depends on stopping this!! Mr. Obenshain, if you demand a recount with honest observers I for one will send a donation. I think a lot of us would.
Democrats always want to count till they win..
Yup if you let them count long enough they always win....Kennedy taught them that
This is a typical vote recount when the Democrat candidate always gains votes, and eventually if they keep it up, the Democrat claims a victory.
It is a nightmare - yikes. I live in Minnesota and have experienced this type of thing many times.
Is ‘True The Vote’ involved? I wonder if someone’s gonna find some boxes with a few thousand ‘lost ballots’ inside. This crap has GOT to stop. The Dems stall for days while in the meantime there’s a room where people are filling out ‘lost ballots’. ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!
Somewhere, a Democrat is saying “I told you to put more ballots in that box. Go find another lost box of Democrats.”
have they found a paper sack of ballots yet?
This is the Virginia Attorney General election. Hardly a momentous election. I would be inclined, if the votes come in for the Dem, to say, “Look, guys, sometimes the votes are for us—Bush 2000—and sometimes they are against us. We’ll just call this even.”

Progressives are always very good at “finding” votes when they need them.
F’ing amazing!
But being an American citizen is not a spectator sport. The whole country needs to get behind Obenshain on this while it's an off-year election.
I see this as a far bigger threat than Obamacare. If we don't have honest elections, then the great experiment is over.
No, but they found a bunch of them in an open grave in northern Virginia---the corpses forgot to turn them in.

The lawyers and everyone are in a electoral board review meeting in Richmond to hash out what discrepancies they have. There are a few precincts that possibly overcounted Herring or undercounted Obenshain.
Wrong, it's the only thing standing between McAuliffe and a totally corrupt Administration.
And how is it legal to "find" votes after the election?
The ballets they found were provisional ballets. In other words they made them up.
From original article:

If they’re allowed to triple examine Richmond provisionals by committee then every single provisional statewide better get another look when recount time comes. Of course Richmond will get him the hundred he needs.
Weird thing is Obenshain’s team asked for these precincts to be looked at.
precinct Richmond 607 nets Herring 6 more votes and his lead is up to 106.
