The Atlanta Braves plan to build a new stadium in Cobb County and move there from Turner Field at the start of the 2017 season, team officials said today. Braves executives John Schuerholz, Mike Plant and Derek Schiller, in a meeting with a small group of reporters, said the new ballpark will be built at the northwest intersection of I-75 and I-285 in the Galleria/Cumberland Mall area. They said the team has secured approximately 60 acres of land for the project.
The Braves said the stadium is projected to cost $672 million, including parking, land and infrastructure, and will be built in partnership with Cobb County.

Well, after 20 years who needs Turner Field?
At least the Cubs still have Wrigley. And I hope they always will.
I hope your politicians cut a better deal than ours in Indy.
We not only built a free $725m stadium for the team, but they get all the revenue from all the other non-football events held in it.
Nothing makes a councilman feel better about a project than the computer generated view of the field from his new luxury box comp tickets.
That’s why Braves escaped from downtown Atlanta and Fulton County...they saw how Arthur Blank (Falcons Owner)got reamed by the City Council and Mayor Kassim Reed to get approval for his new stadium downtown.
Probably freak Braves fans out, having to go up north.
I hope the politicians tell them to pound sand when they demand taxpayer money for the playpen.
No, that's where most Braves fans, the season ticket-buying kind, live.
They won't have to endure a trip to the ghetto to watch a ballgame.
Thank god the Braves finally did something right.
Turner Field was built on the parking lot of the old Atlanta Fulton County stadium, which is not really in “downtown”. The Braves don’t own Turner Field and their lease is up in 3 years. Also, the city of Atlanta failed to develop the area around the stadium.
The Georgia Dome is downton close to the CNN Center, GA Aquarium, Coca Cola Museum, and Philips Arena.
LOL, $40 million plus just to those two churches, that probably are worth nothing to any other kind of commercial development.
How was Blank reamed? Atlanta made him pay for some of his own stadium?
Don't forget Fenway...home of champions!
That’s true, hadn’t thought of that.
This is getting to be absurd. Teams play in a stadium for 20-30 years and then want a new stadium because they “need more revenue in order to be competitive”.
Funny that the Boston Red Sox won the World Series this year and they played in a 101 year old stadium. I wonder how that happen? Just think of how “competitive” the BoSox could be if they played in a brand spanking new stadium? /s
Thanks. Haven’t been back that way in a long time.

I’m a Pirates fan. The Braves beat a pair of outstanding Pirates teams in the 1991 and 1992 NLCS (especially the 1991 Pirates). They went on to make a playoff appearance every single year up until, what, 2009 or 2010 or something along those lines? That includes a World Series title in 1995.
The Pirates have had a losing season every single year since the 1992 NLCS up until this past season. I’m still in total disbelief that I can now say that.
I think the Braves have done a lot of things right over the past 20 years :-). Yeah, I’d be a bit frustrated that more of the Braves teams of the past two decades didn’t win it all, but they’ve assembled some damn fine baseball teams :-)! I hate to say that as I still have tomahawk chop related nightmares, but the Braves organization is one of the better in MLB (aside from its sick history with commie Ted Turner and Red Fonda of course :-) ).
Thanks for the aerial photo. Is that site where Cumberland Mall is now located?
Didn't think they had it in 'em.
Yes it is, and the beautiful Cobb Energy Center. Braves are moving on up...
Never mind. I now see Windy Ridge and the Cobb Parkway.

It’s not the age,it’s the location...plus the Braves don’t have any ownership in Turner Field.
