That would be a big fat NO especially if the land
is currently in agricultural production or even if
it could be. If anything, the government should
be selling off land. We sure as hell can’t afford
to spend money on this stuff.

"Schuh said the federal government doesnt pay proper tax levies on the land it does own in his county."
That's pretty funny.

What a racket. Gov’t uses taxpayer money to deprive citizens use and access to formerly private property.

The fed pays “Payments in lieu of taxes” but they are notoriously behind in their assessment when property rates go up. When they go down, they are pretty quick about cutting their assessed value, so the ratchet works against the local government both ways.

When you're broke what do you do? Buy more land of course. You might if you had a license to print money.

Yes, poor west Tennessee has become the pits.
I was born in Memphis, back when it was a fine city.
It had the nations best water, best fire department, always voted nations quietest and cleanest city.
When the blacks hit 60%, they took over and destroyed most all that was good. Poor old king Cotton died back in the 80s to 90s.

Time for the GOP and Tea Party to start doing their “thang” and recruit these people for conservatism.
Isn’t nutcase Rep. Steven Cohen from Tennessee? The perfect example of how a mentally deranged white leftist wacko-job can get elected in the South.
Tennessee is the “Volunteer State” but Cohen’s election makes it the should be “Voluntarily Committed” state.
