SANTA CRUZ -- Heather Turley and Anissa Balderas stood face to face Saturday during an ice breaker at the Gay-Straight Alliance Summit.

"Remember your first coming out day?" said Turley, 16, a student at Watsonville High School. "There were really awkward moments and no one was talking."

Balderas, 16, who was also a student at Watsonville High School, smiled and the two laughed. They were two of 20 middle school and high school students from across the county attending the event, which is meant to meant to help students network with each other.

"Often, these students are working within their own schools to make them safe," said Stuart Rosenstein, chair of the Queer Youth Task Force of Santa Cruz County. "What the Gay-Straight Alliance summit does is bring all these students together so they're not working in isolation and working in a community."

Santa Cruz County's summit has been put on since the late 1990s and has been hosted by the task force for three years, Stuart said.

Liz Torres, 16, from Pajaro Valley High School, had never attended a summit before but recognized the significance.

"It's important because a lot of people don't know about the support network like this and events like this," she said.

Adults facilitating a program that focuses on the sexuality of minor children is just wrong. These kids are not being singled out not for their accomplishments but solely for their perceived sexual preference. In that adults are involved in this is just an invitation for predation.

All they will do is encourage one another to bend over and spread their cheeks...

Did they hold the meeting in the public restroom of a park?

It's called "grooming".

The drooling pedophiles that Neal Coonerty represents are rubbing their palms in anticipation of little toys.

One of my family was molested by a pedophile. Crucifixion, with one stake through the genitals, is the best solution to the pervert problem in this country.

Furthermore, the whole myth that children are born gay only sexualizes children for the pedophiles.

Santa Cruz County psychologists would probably state that this adult minor child interaction is a good thing:

New charges brought against Capitola child psychologist accused of child molestation

ANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz County prosecutors brought two new charges against a Capitola child psychologist already charged with 21 felony counts of child molestation.

Tuesday, prosecutor Michael Gilman filed two additional charges of felony sex crime with a child under 14 against John William Visher, 66, in light of an fifth victim coming forward.

The latest victim was 7-years-old when the molestation started in 2002, Gilman said. The molestation was from 2002 to 2004.

The victim’s mother came forward after reading about Visher’s prosecution, Gilman said.

Defense attorney Doug Fox pleaded not guilty on Visher’s behalf and declined to comment on the new charges.

During a September preliminary examination, Judge Samuel Stevens ruled there was sufficient evidence to hold Visher to 16 of the 21 child molestation charges. Gilman disputed the ruling and filed paperwork asking a second judge to review the evidence. The review is still pending.

Because the latest charges against Visher were not addressed in the first preliminary examination, Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge Ariadne Symons ruled a second preliminary examination for the latest charges would be held Nov. 18.

If there is enough evidence to support the two new charges, they likely would be consolidated with the other charges, Gilman said.

Visher was arrested Sept. 19, 2012 at his La Selva Beach home after complaints from a patient. He posted bail but was rearrested after prosecutors filed new charges related to three other underaged victims

apparently gays need encouragement to remain gay.

i have never had any one encourage me to keep up being the best heterosexual i can be.

please, gay brother, stay sick and miserable like the rest of us, stick it out, don’t give up, stay gay. be happy in a lifestyle that’s vacuous and self-absorbed and you don’t have to have genuine’lasting love with anyone, just let yourself be used as a cum dumpster by people you don’t even know.

yeah, ain’t living a perverted lifestyle grand?!?

Yeah. The SOB lives in La Selva.

That’s a crime in itself.

What’s wrong with La Selva? Used to be a nice place back in the 60’s & 70’s. Did something change?

Nothing!

That’s my point. How come a POS like this gets to live in such a fabulous place?

New locale for him: a lovely concentration camp in Mojave.

The SOB was also a sponsor of the Diversity Center which was the facilitator of this event. They had an add for his “counseling” services on their web site.

Your tax dollars at work, I suppose.

My family had a nursery off of Little San Miguel. I was born in San Francisco while my father was off in the Western Pacific killing Japs. We also raised oranges in Orange County down in South California.

When I came back from my war, I got married by old Judge Blohm in the Castroville Judicial Court and settled to raise a family in Carmel Valley. Life was good.

I know California well. It was truly the ‘Golden State’ when we was growing up.

Left California (got transferred) in ‘91. No regrets.
