238th Marine Corps birthday message:Enduring Fortitude, Unfailing Valor. [video]
The Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen James F. Amos, and
the SgtMaj of the Marine Corps, SgtMaj Micheal P. Barrett,
speak to Marines and Sailors about the timeless Marine qualities of
courage and perseverance by looking back on the landing on
Tarawa in WWII, the Battle of Hue City during Vietnam, and
crossing the berm into Iraq during the War on Terror. Marine
determination, grit and valor make the Corps the ready force
America relies on in times of crisis.

My father, gone 10 years, was a 3 war Marine.
A man with the same human imperfections we all suffer; he and I fought like hell in my teen years.
He was a man of impeccable honor, morality and loyalty. He was a Marine.
I have his K Bar, dog tags and some pictures from his first command in Korea 1953 hanging on the wall in a shadowbox frame that I see multiple times every day. When I die it will hang in my daughter’s home.

Thank you. I can’t believe that our country won’t prevail. It’ll take some time to undo the damage, but I’m certain that the vast majority of Americans value our troops, our freedoms, and our way of life enough to correct our situation.

Marine Corps History
Snip:
On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that "two battalions of Marines be raised" for service as landing forces with the fleet. This established the Continental Marines and marked the birth of the United States Marine Corps. Serving on land and at sea, early Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations, including their first amphibious raid on foreign soil in the Bahamas in March 1776, under the command of the Corps' first commandant, Capt. Samuel Nicholas. The 1783 Treaty of Paris ended the Revolutionary War and as the last of the Navy's ships were sold, the Continental Navy and Marines disbanded.
Following the formal re-establishment of the Marine Corps on July 11, 1798, Marines fought in conflicts with France, landed in Santo Domingo and conducted operations against the Barbary pirates along the "Shores of Tripoli."
Marines participated in numerous operations during the War of 1812, including the defense of Washington at Bladensburg, Md. They also fought alongside Andrew Jackson in the defeat of the British at New Orleans. Following the War of 1812, ...
