Now, I can't blame the students for their actions, and in fact they put up with the crumby perp far longer than I would have. So, I hope they do not get expelled. But I also have to reluctantly agree that the university is probably within its legal rights here, as sucky as their decision is.
The off-campus housing the students are living in is university housing - “””
Then I would sue the University for not providing proper security.
If they won’t let me take care of myself with my own ‘security’, then they should keep the buildings & occupants safe.
They cannot have it both ways, IMO.
Well there’s legal rights and there’s the CODE OF THE WEST. That’s where the students are from and that’s where Gonzaga is. The college obviously thot they didn’t need any security but they are going to lose every time they try to force people to be defenseless. The housing agreement the students signed says “no weapons” but that implies security is in place. As with all the other recent “gun free zone” incidents it’s the school that’s shown its weak spot and they’d better back it up in a hurry or their trust fund is going to take a major hit. Remember Spokane is where the WW II vet recently got killed by beating when two of their finest tried to hold him up. The students had absolute reason to be fearful, concerned, and resist with all they had. Gonzaga doesn’t play football so the students were not likely to be full grown horses-—most likely don’t have the physical skills to bust the head of the robber-—all the more reason for the school to have some security out there in the ‘hood.
Yeah, that is a pretty critical omission. Stupid rule, but it's their property. But under those circumstances, why would anyone agree to live there?
