Back in the 1960s Reader’s Digest had an article in which the writer wanted to use this song as the New National Anthem, with some modern poet writing new words to it. It didn’t fly.
I’ve had several in mind, namely STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER (Why should a song need words?), or some other John Phillip SoUSA! SONG.
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL would be great but it mentions GOD! and the libs would then foam at the mouth, so I feel YOU’RE A GRAND OLD FLAG is better.
