November 7, 2013 (INDIANAPOLIS) -- Opponents of a push to amend Indiana's gay marriage ban into the state constitution say adjacent Illinois' approval of same-sex marriage could help their cause.

Indiana gay marriage amendment opponent Rick Sutton of Indiana Equality Action says the Illinois legislature's approval of the gay marriage bill is a "monumental" victory. He tells The Indianapolis Star that Illinois' move could boost gay-rights advocates fighting Indiana's proposed amendment.

But amendment supporter Curt Smith of the Indiana Family Institute predicts that Indiana will feel little effect from Illinois' pending law, which awaits Gov. Pat Quinn's signature.

There is one elephant in the room here - what black churches in Illinois and Indiana have to say about this and what happens if the activists in question attempt to force and bully them into having gay weddings in their churches. Probably would force many more of them to truly understand that the leaders they trusted viewed them as just one of any number of special interest groups to use and discard when no longer needed.

We’ve had pretty good luck watching what they do next door, then doing the opposite here in Indiana.

Homosexual radicals have gone for wanting to be accepted by society to demanding approval by society to now destroying anyone or anything that gets in their way.

Are there any numbers on just how many gay couples are actually tying the knot?

We’re always hearing about the hundreds of thousands in each state who have been oppressed, but it seems that there are really only “hundreds” actually taking the vows

Hard to say, since many of the states seem not to be keeping records indicating the sex of people married (they never needed to before, after all). A couple years ago, we had estimates of 130,000 couples nationwide.

I know Indiana, and no this WILL NOT help the pro fake (homosexual) marriage people in Indiana.

You have the majority of the counties which are conservative/Christian leaning, and Indianapolis (the major Democratic area) is majority African American in the city (they are traditional back ~Christian~ Democrats).

Marriage Amendment passes in Indiana especially when championed by the grass roots (most of the legislative majority) AND the Governor!

I wish Gary would become part of Illinois.

Gary and Chicago should join together and become Garychicagostan. And let the rest of Indiana and Illinois become their own states. It’s Chicago that asked for this predominantly. The redneck remainder of Illinois need their own state.

Good idea. Like Virginia; Northern VA is much different than Southern VA.
