Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Friday said that new requirements imposed on insurance companies by Obamacare will require those companies to treat mental illness and addiction that same as physical illness, creating "the largest behavioral health expansion in a generation."

Can you ask your sister if she has a package deal in mind? Maybe the labotomy-castration-shock-isolation-heroine routine where you lose everything that works and just don’t care anymore? S’Bilious should show us how by going first. Remember she’s the chick that showed us how to blow our nose on our shirt sleeve to keep from spreading snot ( I guess) around?
This is a direct result of Obama driving everyone to drink.
Shrinks are so they can take away our guns.
There is already a shortage of psychiatrists, in part because of miscalculations about the demand for psychiatrists by the gov't and cutbacks in funding for mental health training that occurred years ago. AFAIK the mental health insurance parity under Obamacare is nothing new. This is only the regulations about it. I mentioned insurance payment parity to my cousin, the psychiatrist, a few years ago -- and he just shrugged and indicated that it didn't make much difference to him, since he already had more work than he could possibly handle, and he felt it was his patient's responsibility to deal with their insurance companies.
More increased demand with a decreasing supply under Obamacare. As you say -- this should be interesting to watch!
Along with all of the ADA requirements and HIPAA you would think that all Americans are disabled.
We have sunk as a free country. Pathetic really.
I’m somewhat familiar with a few crazy people and getting them to farm is way past optimistic. Keeping them out on a “farm”, and away from the general population has benefits. If they were productive before they went nuts then they probably have assets that should be used to contribute to their recovery. If they started off crazy and stayed that way then they are most likely wards of the state anyway and so will be kept in a safe place.
Speaking of mental illness! The Obamunists are already massively expanding a program that has already completely collapsed before it even got off the launch pad! These people are truly delusional!
The normalization of Abortion, sterilization, shrinks.
The downfall of a nation.
99% of the country will be deemed mentally incompetent by the state and therefore unfit to own guns.
Only the 1% of the state can own them.
1984.
Thank you for writing that- now might be the perfect time to get a Physician Assistant license. There won’t be enough MDs for a long time. I toyed with the idea in my head a few years back when my friend did it, but forgot about it. Until your post got me thinking. Hmmm...
SSo that covers Obama voters,, what about the rest of the herd?
An Administration composed of old hippies and choom-gangers dictating mental health policy. Nice.
It’s only money. Your money.
You seem to be defining 'mentally ill' as severe psychosis, when in actuality the DSM includes well over 300 categories of mental illness, varying widely in severity, degree of dysfunction, and prospects for remission.
In my area the wait is ∞, with no psychiatrists accepting new government insurance patients at all. There are very few practitioners in the psychiatric specialty. This is although every other conceivable specialty (cardiac & cancer & neurological centers, etc.) is way overbuilt with excess capacity.
If one can make do with an ARNP in the psychiatric specialty the wait is six months.
And mandatory sex changes. MAN-TURNITY CARE here we come.
WYSIWYG
My neighbor across the street [55 years old] has been on full disability for a decade now. Anger-management issues.
Off-topic somewhat, but his sister [58 years old] has been on disability for 15 years because her knees keep giving out -- has had three replacements. Of course, she weighs about 300 lbs., too.
“Of course, she weighs about 300 lbs., too. “
Man, that p*sses me off. I have foot problems from thirty years of running. I was a very muscular 210 pounds at age 58, but I still managed to lose 30 pounds so I could walk down to my project on the production floor without too much pain. Every step still hurts, but it’s less at the lower weight. I now have a six pack and it’s not easy. I have to watch every calorie and exercise hard five days a week. I have no sympathy for people who are sometimes hundreds of pounds overweight, or who drink or who do drugs. None of those should be disabilities. Would I qualify for disability? Possibly, but I look fantastic...er...muscle-wise. I’m folliclely challenged. Who would believe that every step hurts?
The opposite. Drug-addled peasants are less likely to revolt. I see them in the suburbs; in part due to their happy pills they are now reliable democratic voters.
