Makes sense to me. The anthem has NO PLACE at sporting events. Its original purpose was to take peoples minds off how rotten life was during the depression. Patriotism is the last bastion of the scoundrel-works every time.It was written by Francis Scott Key when the brits were attacking the USA during the war of 1812, 120 years BEFORE the depression.
You are stuck on stupid.

Your ignorance is only superseded by your stupidity.
Time for you to return to DU and your like-minded comrades.

I want to be at the United Center at the start of a Chicago Blackhawk’s game when some libtard announces that Jimmy Cornelison will not be singing the anthem because it’s militaristic and offensive.

You know, it occurs to me that liberals truly want a pussi-fied, pacifist, completely government controlled society of drones.
The Sylvester Stallone movie "Demolition Man" isn't particularly good, or bad. Kind of your average action movie. But the funny thing is, I find myself identifying with the Edgar Friendly character in it. He's the rebel going against the sheeple. Anyway, if/when you watch this movie look at the society Stallone wakes up in. It is exactly the idiotic kind of liberal utopia today's liberals seem to be pushing for. {shudder} What a nightmare.

I know. Lets replace the Star Spangled Banner as our national anthem with the second most popular anthem.
God Bless America.
Cue the liberal heads exploding in 5, 4, 3 ...

Actually, if Americans spent half the time and money they do on sports related stuff, there is a solid chance our government wouldn’t be the mess it is. (I know, “It’s too complicated”—coming from the person who could just about spew the stats for every player and team from the NFL for the last thirty years.)

Which is exactly why I wouldn’t want to work in the field despite being a fan. As for Dumb@ss-stone, I will avoid ESPCN en he is on.

Actually we had won our freedom over 30 years prior to the writing of the song.

Exactly a song written 120 years before the Depression. Mr. Key was much smarter than I have ever given him credit for. As for you, maybe you should brush up on your history and leave out the histrionics.

The Dallas Morning News stopped having a great sports page when Blackie Sherrod retired. When they brought in such duds like Kevin Blackistone because they wanted more politically correct color instead of competent sports writers, I stopped subscribing.

I believe he was referring to when and why it was played during sporting events and I know it was played in the 1918 W.S.

After reading through your history in here, you should spend more time lurking and less time dazzling us with your “witticisms”.
And since you have an issue with patriotism, this site really isn’t for you at all.

The Dallas Morning News stopped having a great sports page when Blackie Sherrod retired. Great sportswriters out of Texas in the 60s and 70s: Dan Jenkins, Blackie Sherrod, and Bud Shrake being three.
Nowadays, the general leftism that infects all j-school grads at MSM outlets spills over to the sports pages too. For example, can't pick up an SI issue that doesn't have either (1) an article about some jock who has come out or (2) a transexual jock or (3) loving references to our dear leader obama (these sprinkled throughout). More usually, all three!
Good luck with your picks this weekend. I'm already 0 - 1... the Deadskins let me down!

You are right. That would be the “Second War of Independence”. :)
