The Obama administration has ordered a study to determine whether the Affordable Care Act, by increasing the number of people eligible for Medicaid, will also increase the number of people enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program based on how states enroll people.
The outcome of the study could show an increase of 3 percent to 5 percent in food stamp recipients in some states from people who were already eligible for SNAP benefits but had not enrolled in the program which could translate to millions or even billions more in federal spending, Greg Mills, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute who is conducting the study, told POLITICO.
So in percentage terms, its not going to be very large, but were talking about a very large program, said Mills, who is investigating the effects of the health care law on SNAP on behalf of the Department of Agricultures Food Nutrition Service, the agency that monitors food stamps.
It would have a substantial financial effect.
The likely increase would come from a greater overlap in eligibility between Medicaid under Obamacare and SNAP.
Nearly all uninsured people now covered by the Medicaid expansion are also eligible for food stamps, but they are not all enrolled. Depending on how states put residents in these programs many have integrated the process for SNAP and Medicaid eligible food stamp recipients could be more easily targeted and encouraged to apply.

I think we have at most five years to stop this. If we fail, it may be over.
Meanwhile, the shadowy cabal of Leftists who snuck Obama into office are rubbing their hands and cackling...”All too easy...”
From the Comments:
“Every time I try to tell myself that the whole “Obama is trying to create more dependency on government so that he can weaken the U.S” theory is a paranoid right-wing idea something else (like this story) comes out that makes it seem increasingly credible”.
The elite consider that a good thing.
Insurance and health cost is one of the factors determining SNAP eligibility and payments.
LOTS of people wil be newly eligible because of mandated health insurance costs.
We are giving up the premier health care we always enjoyed in this country to redistribute wealth to the dem voter. Things will never be the same. Sad.
If they pass amnesty it IS over.
I used to think that, but I saw the other day that in 2013 over a trillion dollars (1/3 of the budget) was spent on Medicare and Medicaid. They are causing a financial collapse as fast as they can.
When TSHTF they will have people “willing to do the work that Americans won’t do” to clean the mess up.
True
DUH... Ya think???
Of course, anyone that tried to point this out before now was branded as CRAZY, or a racist....
Who is going to be left paying into the system? Serious question. The uber wealthy don’t pay taxes. The middle class is disappearing at warp speed. The rest of us are going to be broke and on the dole too so who is left to pay?
Um, it’s all going on credit now anyway!
Great, soon we will all be on food stamps and growing a home garden will be illegal. What a wonderful world we have made.
