Republicans turned back several challenges by Democrats as the GOP retained a solid majority in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Democrat Jeremy McPike narrowly defeated Republican incumbent Scott Lingamfelter in unofficial returns Tuesday, but several other Republicans survived and the GOP kept 10 seats vacated by Republicans.

People make a serious mistake when they attribute it to race. It's not racial, it's cultural.
My memory of Virginia civics has faded, but I don’t think the governor in Virginia has nearly the executive power that a U.S. president has. I recall that the governor has some appointive powers (to various state boards, etc), but the legislature controls most everything of importance.
Voting with their airheads is more like it. Did they honestly think Cuccinelli was going to ban birth control or tampons or whatever?
I’m betting on a money scandal or woman problem for TM. He’s a real sleezeball. It will be fun watching the Roanoke Times pretend it isn’t happening. The next two years will be hard on the RT because they are used to hammering either the White Hut or the Governor. Now they have neither nor can they hammer the Senators. They’ll need a strawman in the House of Delegates to demonize.
Exactly correct. Although to a large extent, racial divisions often follow cultural divisions to the extent that it becomes difficult to distinguish the two.
And the fact that he knows that he only won because the other party sold their candidate up the river and not because of genuine, mainstream support. NOT everyone can feel influential and like they can get what they want done when they have that in the back of their mind. I think that and having a Republican/conservative dominated VA Legislative Branch is going to severely weigh down on Macauliflower and he won’t have the fortitude to fight it.
