Chutzpah. I believe that's the word for it.
Just days after learning the Americans have been tapping her phones and taping her conversations, Angela Merkel has been publicly upbraided by the U.S. Treasury for being a bad global citizen.
What did she do to deserve this?
Merkel just won a third term as chancellor with a record vote and has an approval rating near 80 percent. But she is a bad global citizen because Germany is running the world's largest trade surplus.
The Washington Post thinks the Treasury's tongue-lashing is overdue, as does Paul Krugman of the New York Times:
"In this environment, a country that runs a trade surplus is ... beggaring its neighbors. It is diverting spending away from their goods and services to its own, and thereby taking away jobs."
Is this not astonishing?

Gee, I fondly recall the days when we ran huge trade surpluses. Things seem to be much better for us then.

At least she knows what she is doing and that piece of art who is running the show over here along with his dummies unfortunately doesn't. Very sad indeed......This is what happens when a good portion of the public happens to be dummer than a rock.

Memo to Merkel: Tell Obama to Take a Hike Merkel (and every other world leader) will eventually realize that this is not Reagan's America anymore. We are now a nation of scam artists and community organizers. And that will not change going forward.

Week after week, article after article, Pat Buchanan delivers the goods and renders the most insightful perspectives on the important issues that really matter. His insights on important matters exceed in quality those of Charles Krauthammer, George Will, Mark Stein and Victor David Hanson. He has rendered the most important convention speech since Ronald Reagan. Yet he is carelessly dismissed as an anti-Semite or a neo-Nazi.
Pat Buchanan has for decades been the Jeremiah who has seen the apocalypse to come and has called us all to repent.
