... At Prudhoe Bay, up to 8 billion cubic feet of natural gas is produced daily and ...injected back into the ground to maintain reservoir pressure and produce more oil. This injection has improved oil recovery and extended the life of the field beyond initial estimates. In addition, some components of the produced natural gas are used to make miscible injectant, which is deployed/utilized for enhanced oil recovery.
Other than the small portion of gas that is liquefied as natural gas liquids (NGLs) for shipment down the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, there are no means at present to transport North Slope gas to markets. Today, Alaska gas is facing intense competition from abundant shale gas resources in the Lower 48 states. The Department of Energy estimates that by 2020, unconventional gas, such as shale gas, will account for more than 50 percent of total US production. However, BP is committed to evaluating alternatives to commercializing our North Slope gas resources, and we are working with other major North Slope gas lease owners to determine the commercial feasibility of Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) export. -BP
FU2. I have no ax against Palin other than what she did as mayor of Wasilla and governor of Alaska or has come out of her mouth since, which has not impressed me other than that first speech.
Although I could dig something up, FReeper thackney would be the one to know where the best sources are on the effects of Palin's byzantine tax. He is highly regarded here on the topic, and is among those who went back to Texas as a result.
