Richie Incognito suspended by team (Miami Dolphins bully)

The Miami Dolphins have suspended starting guard Richie Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team.

Incognito was being reviewed by the Dolphins, the NFL and the NFL Players Association for harassment of teammate Jonathan Martin, who left the team last week following a lunchroom incident.

"The Miami Dolphins have suspended Richie Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team," the team said in a statement released late Sunday night.

"We believe in maintaining a culture of respect for one another and as a result we believe this decision is in the best interest of the organization at this time.

Incognito, who had been a part of the Dolphins' six-player leadership council, started all eight games for the Dolphins (4-4) this year. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Sources told ESPN that one of the significant allegations being reviewed is that Incognito got Martin to contribute $15,000 to help finance a trip to Las Vegas by some Dolphins last summer, even though Martin preferred not to travel with the group.

Rather than go, Martin simply gave Incognito the $15,000, sources told ESPN, fearing the consequences if he did not hand over the money.

This is not the first time Incognito has been in trouble. In 2009 he got into a verbal altercation with then-Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo for multiple penalties in a game. Incognito was waived a few days later. Incognito also was suspended for the 2004 season in college at Nebraska due to off-field incidents.

Incognito was voted the second-dirtiest player in the NFL from a player poll in the Sporting News before the 2012 season. Houston Texans defensive lineman Antonio Smith also swung a helmet at Incognito during an August preseason game, alleging foul play.

Bullies operate on intimidation. This guy is a criminal for shaking down his victims through fear. He is just like the mafia. He needs to be arrested and charged for his crimes.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, Martin was forced to pay $15,000 for a players’ trip to Las Vegas that Martin did not attend and was the victim of persistent harassment, among other things. Martin also was in possession of threatening text messages from Incognito and at least one voicemail.

This bully sure likes to threaten his victims.

He would have fit in well with the Raiders of yesteryear.

Maybe Incognito should play under an assumed name.

This isn’t bullying, it is extortion.

I feel the same way.

I know any sport is going to have a bit of nonsense to endure as a rookie/FNG - carrying the team’s luggage, getting sent on the equivalent of a snipe hunt (I remember reading about one NFL team putting up a false flyer for free Thanksgiving turkeys in the locker room, the joke being that it ended up being a trip to an empty cornfield out in the boonies for all the rookies who fell for it).

What this guy has allegedly been doing, however, is nothing less than extortion. This needs to go beyond just league punishment and involve LEO.

Ain’t that the truth. And how can anyone find this guy? He’s always traveling incognito.

“FOX’s Mike Garafolo says Martin’s representatives informed the team and league that Incognito has sent Martin multiple threatening and racially-charged text messages. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported on Sunday that Martin is “genuinely scared” of Incognito. Those text messages might be part of the reason why (Martin left the team).”

But what did he do???? In the context of an NFL locker room, this makes no sense.

What consequences? It seems as if there was a "group" that instigated this why aren't they all being suspended?

Having read the linked article, I have to say that it’s not much to go on.

“This is not the first time Incognito has been in trouble. In 2009 he got into a verbal altercation with then-Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo for multiple penalties in a game. Incognito was waived a few days later. Incognito also was suspended for the 2004 season in college at Nebraska due to off-field incidents.”

That’s it? Seriously? The NFL has killers, rapists, and dog fighters in its ranks. I have a feeling that “bullying” is going to be the subject of a Presidential debate question in 2016.

There you go. Take $15k from a fellow player, silence....use a racial term, you’re out.

If these allegations are true, Incognito is scum.

Kind of reminds me of the words by Alice Cooper/Pat Boone:

I went to church, incognito
When everybody rose, the Reverand Smith,
He recognized me,
And punched me in the nose

One of Incognitos methods of foul play on the field was eye gouging. That kind of threat from a 300 lb man to a 20 year old seems enough to walk away and get help.
