I’ve got a neighbor who gets food stamps and says he gets $189 per month after this $11 cut. He feeds himself and his young daughter on them for now (Mother passed away).
He tells me that he doesn’t even use up the balance on the card from month to month. He bargain shops and grew a large garden this summer so he has lots of home canned and frozen veggies.
I just made 2 gallons of vegetable soup last
Sunday for < $5.
ate supper on it all week and froze 3 quarts.
A cheap, marked-down chunk of chuck, a dented can of peas and a couple of stalks of celery from a .99 cent head I bought at Aldis were the only things I didn’t grow..
I furnished the potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, corn, carrots, onions, green beans, eggplant, and cabbage myself.
buy a vacuum packer...

buy some rice and mashed potato flakes, large bags of frozen veggies and separate and vaccum pack, and for less than 200.00 you and your spouse can eat like kings..
of course, you have to spend several hours cutting and vacuum packing (in other words you have to WORK to do it)...
