Probably M&P-15. It’s an AR-15 clone from S&W.

Yep, that’s an AR-15. Well, this is the shooter they’ve been waiting for: Anti-government, white, using an AR-15, and shooting gummint employees. Prepare for a half dozen new anti-gun bills in Congress by Monday afternoon.

This mutt who shot up LAX just gave TSA its first “hero” by killing that TSA screener. Sone we all will forget the screeners were squeezing our junk and lifting up the tops of 8 year old girls.

It was still not an assault rifle. Not a single M&P-15 has ever been select fire (semi/auto). An assault rifle must have auto fire capability.
The word you are looking for is assault weapon. That is the made-up term by the leftist media during the 90s.

I couldn’t believe my ears this morning, when I was listening to NPR, and the reporter correctly identified the weapon as a semi-automatic rifle.

A ‘rifle’ has a long barrel. This piece would be more accurately described as a carbine.
So the MSM loses again. Heh.

I know. Now they can talk about the “officer killed in the line of duty” as they try to take away our rights. I wonder what prescription drugs this kid was on.

We could discuss the term ‘carbine’ to journalists all day and they would still get it wrong.
The 5.56mm is called an intermediate or carbine cartridge, just like the 7.62x39 and 5.45x39.

Aren’t “assault rifles” illegal in California? (Aa well as in New Jersey).

“Arent assault rifles illegal in California? (As well as in New Jersey).”
Well, while the AR-15 isn’t an “assault rife” in the military sense, but they are probably the most popular rifles on the racks at all the gun stores in California. If they have the “three evil features” (i.e. a collapsable stock, a pistol grip, and a flash hider), they must have a “bullet button” magazine release and unless you have a grandfathered standard mag for it, you have to do with 10 rds.

The shooter sounds like an “Occupy Wall Street” dude.

I am not happy anyone got shot, but gosh darn it, when an Islamic terrorist kills 14 US military personnel at Fort Hood Obama’s FedGov calls it “workplace violence”. In contrast, Obama’s FedGov is now saying “a Federal Agent was murdered” at LAX.
I kid you not.
