Republicans declare war on the Sen Conservatives Fund - SCF = "bullies with their noses in the air"

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is punishing a Republican advertising firm for its work with the Senate Conservatives Fund, a conservative group that has fostered controversy within the Republican Party by challenging some GOP incumbents.

The firm Jamestown Associates has worked for the SCF on many of its attack ads — and will no longer receive business from the NRSC as a result, the committee confirmed Friday.

The move marks the opening salvo in a power struggle that has been brewing behind the scenes between the national Republican establishment and the SCF, which was founded by then-Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina. The group has been especially gung-ho in targeting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who faces a competitive re-election bid in 2014.

"For too long, the SCF has been a bully," said NRSC spokesperson Brad Dayspring. "They claim purity and walk around with their nose held higher than everyone else. It's all fake. It's an act. It's time to stand up to the bully instead of running away."

"We are not going to do business with groups or operatives that make disingenuous promises, mislead conservatives or attack Republicans simply to line their own pockets," Dayspring added. "Period."

The SCF dismissed the NRSC's decisions as "a classic example of how Mitch McConnell operates."

"Rather than inspiring people to support something larger than himself, he uses threats and intimidation to destroy everyone who disagrees with him," said SCF's Executive Director Matt Hoskins. "This isn’t what leaders do. It's what bullies do."

"Fortunately, the grassroots in this country are not afraid of Mitch McConnell and his gang of K Street lobbyists," Hoskins added. "He doesn't represent their values and they're ready to fight for something better."

The SCF has devoted hundreds of thousands of dollars so far this year to targeting McConnell in favor of another Republican candidate, businessman Matt Bevin — but its broader national strategy is to turn the Senate more conservative by engaging in open races for safely Republican seats.

In an election cycle when national Republicans are laser-focused on what they consider their best chance to retake control of the Senate, that strategy has profoundly irked many operatives and strategists within the party — while energizing a competing base of conservative donors and activists.

I don't know how exactly I got on their mailing list, perhaps through the dontfundobamacare.com petition that Ted Cruz plugged when he was on Rush 2 months ago...

I have told this story before on FreeRepublic.

As a young believer in the Republican Party, I enthusiastically supported Barry Goldwater in 1964 and made my way to the South Orange Arena in New Jersey to participate in a rally for Goldwater where he was to speak. On the way into the facility we observed many Goldwater supporters who could not get in for want of tickets. I'm returning home and turning on the local 11 o'clock news out of New York to be told what I had been seeing, I was stunned to see those supporters of Goldwater converted by the magic of television into opponents of Goldwater protesting his appearance.

I never forgot how easily and deftly the media could lie and in the process simply eviscerate a conservative. It did not help that the the Rockefeller wing of the Republican Party was as least as vicious as Lyndon Johnson in collaborating with the media to abort what might be described as the tea party's spiritual birth.

With only three TV networks it was easy to control and shape the "news". The coverage of the civil rights marches convinced the rest of that country the Faubus, Maddox, and Bull Conner were representative of the entire south, a prejuidice passed on and alive to this day.

The anti Goldwater commercial of the little girl picking daisies with a mushroom cloud in the back, IIRC, was broadcast only once as a paid commercial but was played repeatedly on prime time news. Nice tactic on several levels; plausabile deniability, "We immediately pulled the ad" cloaking themselves in the false virtue that has become their hallmark; huge campaign budget savings, prime time ads were very expensivee; and the lasting icon, GOP = Dr. Strangelove mad bombers.

Not too long ago, in a bourbon fueled discussion with friends, the subject of mass news presentations before the then new television medium arose. We realized that so much was derived from Movietone News played at the local theaters. We all had vivid memories of the siege of Dien Bien Phu from our pre-teen years. Before some of us even had TV's. And came the realization that the producers and editors of these news reels came from the left wing cadres that produced the WWII news and propaganda films.

Same as it ever was. Just finely honed.

I agree we won’t get everything we want in one fell swoop. The Precinct Project, which is not mine, points a way to have a larger voice in the Republican Party. It takes a few a hours a month attending the local party meetings and walking districts. If every conservative were to sign up and sacrifice the time needed, we could ultimately remake the party from the ground up.

The plan is to get conservatives to become precinct captains in the 200,000 out of 400,000 empty positions across the country. Precinct captains are the ones who vote in the leadership at the local level who then get to vote at the state level. There are committees for vetting candidates.

It’s definitely something to look into for TEA Partiers and conservatives of all stripes. And for those stuck in blue areas, it might be a fun way to infiltrate the Dems. Imagine the TEA Party democrats wreaking havoc at the local level.

When Hitler invaded Russia, Churchill said to the the House of Commons, "if Hitler had invaded hell I would at least make a friendly reference to the devil" thus defending his aligning England with Joseph Stalin one of the great mass murderers of the 20th century and a regime which Churchill had bitterly opposed even at the risk of his fragile political standing since 1918.

I think history has judged Churchill right on this issue although even Churchill recognized that he was forced by the sheer magnitude of threat which Hitler posed to England who stood alone with the Empire to make alliances against Hitler where he could.

But let us suppose that Hitler contrived a reverse Molotov/Ribbentrop pact with England and Churchill had announced that England was about to make common cause with Germany to drive Soviet Union out of Poland which it had ruthlessly attacked and occupied.

Who can believe that the propaganda of World War II would have been nearly so enthusiastic had it been cast against a leftist enemy, "uncle Joe" Stalin and who can believe that it would have been nearly so blind to Hitler's crimes as it was to Stalin's crimes? This bias has extended well into the Cold War and a we see its consequences in the Korea war, in the Vietnam War and in the war over Star Wars.

I cannot believe that Republican candidates do not devote a much larger share of their war chests to comedy writers who can satire Democrats and give Republicans a panache of coolness which candidates like Romney, McCain and Bob Dole so obviously lacked. They need something to break through the media and satire is the obvious choice. It would only cost a fraction of what they spend in repetitive TV ads which obviously are not working.

I'm wavering on this one. Yes, RINOs need replacement, but a split party is risky in this particular crucial mid-term. If it costs us the Senate, it'll kill me. Should we begin the purge in '16 instead ?

Being that this is the GOPe's argument every single election, I would say that it won't wait for 2016.
