Under Obamacare for car insurance, options such as this would be unavailable to me. I would be paying the high rate, just so some guy that crashes his car every year could pay a lower rate. This is the "one size fits all" plan for statist government.
About twenty years ago...I signed up with a car insurance agent, and had a regular deductible. For five years....no changes. One day...like you...I started to chat with the agent, and came to realize that a $3,000 deductible really cut the car insurance down drastically.
So I made up my mind, took the savings for the two years and put it into a savings account. For the next decade, I continued with this strategy and enjoyed the savings. One day, the agent came to me and noted policy changes from the company, and the most they’d allow for their policy was $1,500. Naturally, the yearly cost went up. I didn’t say much but figured that a number of people did the same thing as I did.
Somewhere in the real fix to the health insurance mess....there’s a magic formula that would make deductibles really fit for most Americans and make logical sense for everyone to have a $5,000 deductible. How it’d all work....I have no idea. But it’s just too good of a benefit to avoid.
