Driver cited for wearing Google Glass may be first in nation

Excerpt:

Yes, you can get a ticket for driving while wearing the new eyewear-like Google Glass wearable computer, which is now being tested nationwide for possible entry into the consumer market.

Cecilia Abadie, 44, who lives in Temecula and works at a golf store in San Diego, got just such a ticket Tuesday night after being stopped for speeding by a California Highway Patrol officer.

Quickly, Abadie posted a note on the Internet: "A cop just stopped me and gave me a ticket for wearing Google Glass while driving! ... Is Google Glass illegal while driving or is this cop wrong??? Any legal advice is appreciated."

The CHP on Wednesday said that the ticket was issued as a violation of California Vehicle Code 27602 that makes it illegal to "drive a motor vehicle if a television receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen, or any other means of visually displaying a television broadcast or video signal that produces entertainment or business applications is operating and is located in the motor vehicle at a point forward of the back of the driver's seat, or is operating and the monitor, screen, or display is visible to the driver while driving the motor vehicle."

While there is no official count, CHP officials in San Diego and at the agency's headquarters in Sacramento said they believe the ticket to Abadie may be the first issued for wearing Google Glass.

Here ion Maryland they have a catch-all that could have been used. They charge you for not paying full time and attention to your driving.

They use it once in a while when people are seen eating their hamburgers or eating ice cream while driving.

I believe in this case it not only was legal ,but is good. No one should be reading Google while driving.

Ahhh is it possible that the woman was speeding because she was paying too much attention to the computer in her glasses, and not enough attention to the road?

How soon before all people who wear prescription glasses are going to start getting hassled every time we are near or within a NO GOOGLE-GLASS AREA?

Google is Communist. Many Googleits are Communist. Enough said. By the way, NEVER ever use Google for search. They record you. Use Startpage.com for any search.

Re Startpage:

I do, and have for about a year and a half. But my son, who is the Director of MIS for a high-tech Mitsubishi division, says IE (latest) and Bing is best. FFox and Chrome = problems. FYI

My driver’s license indicates that I must wear my glasses while driving. Not doing so is a ticketable offense.

no one should text or read texts while driving.

phones are another thing. I can chew gum and walk....and I can drive and talk. I do it with passengers, and to me it is no more a distraction to drive and talk on the phone. Hands free is better still.

Considering that it came from the California legislature, that is a surprisingly well-crafted statute.

You can show that to the police officer that pulls you over for a possible google glass infraction for the 100th time.
